Switzerland – Vietnam: Celebrating 45 Years of Diplomatic Relations (Oct 11, 1971 – Oct 11, 2016)

In the evening of July 7, Consulate General of Switzerland hosted the reception to celebrate 45 years of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Vietnam (Oct 11, 1971 – Oct 11, 2016). 

At the reception, Mr. Othmar Hardegger – Consul General of Switzerland in HCMC also emphasized that the relationship between Switzerland and Vietnam has developed strongly and effectively in different fields.  However, the achievements were still not enough to equalize with the two countries’ great potential.
According to Mr. Hardegger, Switzerland truly hopes that Vietnam’s negotiation with European Free Trade Association (EFTA) will soon reach to the positive final result. This is the importance signal to motivate the economy corporation between the two countries. Switzerland is willing to support Vietnam in any field that is Switzerland’s strength.  
The Consul General also thought that the opening of HCMC Consulate General of Switzerland in 2015 marked the significant milestones in the bilateral relationship between the two countries. In addition, to promote more collaborations in commerce, investment, tourism, and culture exchanges with HCMC in particular and Vietnam in general.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem assumed that Switzerland is now one of the top chief partner of Vietnam in Europe.

With new effusive policies, HCMC always kindly welcome the people from Switzerland come to the city; also create convenient opportunities for the Swiss business association in HCMC.
The city will continue to positively expand all the bilateral cooperation projects in order to lead the two nations’ relation reach the best results.
