This morning our school had a very special experience – we visited Chuc Tu Orphanage on Dien Bien Phu street, to donate money and gifts raised from our Winter Bake Sale. The orphanage is home to 80 students – the oldest being about six years old and the youngest being tiny little babies.
Before visiting, it was difficult to know what to expect; our class talked about how some children don’t have parents (or a family) and how lucky we are to have people in our lives who love and care for us.
Generally speaking, the children in the orphanage seemed happy and playful; we sang songs, played games and listened to the story of how the children ended up there. Seeing the the little babies must have been challenging for our students, but it’s a very valuable lesson to be reminded of how precious life is and how lucky we are to learn at a school like FOSCO and have families that love us.
On January 19, 2024, the Grade 4 and Grade 5 classes together with the Principals, admin, and teachers visited the orphanage. It is to give back to the community by helping the local community who are selflessly supporting and looking after the unfortunate babies and toddlers of Mái Ấm Hoa Hồng.
We handed over cash, milk, and diapers from the proceeds of the Bake Sale on Dec. 15, 2023 of which we thank the admin, students, and parents, and guests who wholeheartedly supported it and generated a record amount.
FIS cuddled, carried, cared, fed, played, cheered, and put the babies and toddler to sleep. Happiness is written all over everyone’s face as they interacted with them. Helping is a great source of joy. It makes our purpose in life worth living and working for.
