In the celebratory atmosphere greeting Vietnamese Women’s Day, approved by the Communist Party Committee, by FOSCO Board of Members and Board of General Directors, the company Trade Union and Youth Union organised the 86th anniversary celebration of Vietnamese Women’s Day on  October 20, 2016.
On October 20, 1930, a union of only Vietnamese women was established under the name “The Vietnamese Anti-Imperialism Women’s Union”. This union’s name was then changed to and well-known as “The Vietnamese Women’s Union”. To mark this event, the Communist Party of Vietnam has decided to choose October 20 as the official date to commemorate the foundation of this organization and also to show the country’s appreciation to Vietnamese women in general, thus the name “Vietnamese Women’s Day”.
In the current economical conditions, Vietnamese women in general and female employees in particular have to play many roles with many responsibilities such as being a good citizen, a good mother, a good wife, and at the same time a competent staff member. To fulfill the responsibilities in those roles, it requires each female employee to equip themselves with knowledge, creativity, flexibility, working skills, soft skills, etc.
At present, FOSCO manages 3,688 female employees, accounts for 60.58% of the total 6,088 employees (both in the Foreign Organization Sector and the Office Sector), in which, there are 931 female employees who are members of FOSCO Trade Unions and participate in 188 different workplace unions under FOSCO Trade Union.
In the Office Sector, female employees are well taken care of so that they can be updated with national political issues, through training courses to improve professional skills and thus trusted to be appointed in important positions in the Communist Party Committee, in the Management Board, as the Controller, Director or Deputy Director.
In the Foreign Organization Sector, the number of female employees holding leadership positions like Head of Business Representative Offices, Economic Representative Offices, Representatives of International Organizations, of Foreign Non-Governmental Organizations, etc is quite high, with excellent qualifications, professional knowledge, mastery of foreign languages and leadership capabilities, all of which significantly contributed to the development of industries in various areas from diplomacy to the economy, culture, society, etc and overall to the development of the City.
The gathering event in honor of Vietnamese Women’s Day on Oct 20th, 2016 at FOSCO took place solemnly, lively and cozily. The representative of the FOSCO Trade Union, Mr. Dao Cong Duong – Chairman of the Trade Union expressed his pride of the mothers, sisters, and female colleagues – the Vietnamese women. They are the embodiment of the traditional lifestyle “three obediences, four virtues” which are “heroism, indomitability, loyalty, responsibility”, they are the obvious examples of women who are “Excellent at work; Resourceful at home”.
Mr. Dao Cong Duong then suggested that all union members should show great gratitude and appreciation to many generations of Vietnamese women who have silently devoted all their lives, who “are willing to sacrifice without many words ” to preserve and build the country, just as Uncle Ho had confirmed: “Vietnam land and rivers can only be as beautiful as they are drawn and made on precious silk thanks to the great devotion of our Vietnamese women, young and old alike”.
Contributing to the success of the event, it would be not enough if we forgot to mention about the charity campaign for the people who had to suffer a lot from the catastrophy that just happened in the Middle of Vietnam. Many different unions, company partners, organizations as well as individuals volunteered to donate up to more than VND 20.000.000. Especially, Son Kim Group was very generous as putting in an amount of VND 50.000.000 and so did FOSCO.
The money collected from the campaign will soon be given to the citizens in the Middle of Vietnam by the Trade Unions of Public Service Conpanies and Commercial Service Companies in Ho Chi Minh City.
Last but not least, many special thanks to our partners Gilimex and Tan Thanh Do for supporting us and sponsoring this meaningful event./.
