Annual Meeting for Non-Government Organizations in HCM City

On the morning of the 7th June 2018, the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO) organized its annual meeting to summarize NGO activity in HCM City. This event belongs to one of the many annual key meetings that best offer NGOs and their partners an opportunity to meet and share information for better co-operation.
In the past few years, relationship between local government and NGOs has been considered always the dominant factor for the people’s diplomatic policy and foreign affairs of the Vietnamese Government and its Communist Party. Today, the estimated number of licensed NGOs based in Ho Chi Minh City is up to 160 organizations, of which Latin America accounts for 67, Europe 61, Asia Pacific 30, and 2 from Africa.
In 2017, People’s Committee of HCM City approved its relevant bodies and other local business partners of NGOs to receive aid and funding totaling US$ 48.6 million. In 2018, up until the end of May, grant assistance of NGOs to Ho Chi Minh City has been valued at over US$ 27.2 million.
The grant assistance programs mainly go to projects and research programs relating to public health, education, vocational training, child care, handicapped, and needy people.   
Speaking at the meeting, Huynh Minh Thien, President of HUFO, sincerely wished NGOs to keep co-operating with the relevant bodies in Vietnam, as well as continue their grant assistance programs for the long-term goal of a better social security and living standard for different communities within Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh city.  
On this occasion, due to excellent performance and active role in supporting and organizing charity activities, 13 Non–Governmental Organizations were given Certificates of Appreciation by the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City. Meanwhile, another 38 organizations were also recognized and appreciated by HUFO.  
At the meeting, FOSCO, as the assigned agency by Ministry of Foreign Affairs for managing and recruiting Vietnamese employees working for representative offices of diplomatic corps, economic entities, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, and foreign individuals based on 20 provinces in the South of Vietnam (from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau); also other the Decision #897/QĐ-BNG dated 14th April 2015; and Decision #740/QĐ-UBND of People’s committee of HCM City dated 14th Feb 2015 upon the functions and obligations of FOSCO in implementing Decree #75/2014/NĐ-CP issued on 3rd March 2014, which specially details some key provisions of the 2012 Labor Code; FOSCO’s consultancy to the guests at the meeting was much appreciated and welcomed.
