FOSCO Organizes Trans Viet Tour combined with Pilgrimage Tour for Staff

From June 14 to June 17, 2017, Service Company to Foreign Missions (FOSCO) organized a tour to Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue and Da Nang in combination with Pilgrimage Tour for the staff.
The delegation began their visit in  Vung Chua - Yen Island in Quang Binh Province. Here, they laid flowers in tribute to General Vo Nguyen Giap (1911-2013) – the first General of the Vietnam People’s Army, leading commander of the Indochina War (1946-1954) and Vietnam War (1960-1975), who was closely associated with the victory in Dien Bien Phu (1954) and the Ho Chi Minh Campaign (1975).
They also paid tribute at the Trường Sơn Martyrs’ Cemetery in Gio Linh District, northwest of Dong Ha in Quang Tri Province. The site is dedicated to those who died in the name of national liberation and reunification along the various paths of the Truong Son Range and the Ho Chi Minh Trail, to whom the Vietnamese state, army, and people owe a debt of gratitude and honor
The delegation stopped next at the Quang Tri Old Citadel, a military citadel which was built in 1809 in Nguyen Dynasty, on the bank of River Thach Han. It is remembered around the world for mounting a valiant defense lasting 81 days and nights during the historic battle here in 1972. Over 328,000 tons of bombs were dropped here, equivalent to seven times the power of the atomic bomb dropped in Hiroshima, Japan. The delegates burnt incense and laid flowers in memory of the soldiers as their heroic stories were recalled.

“Step slowly and speak quietly
Let my comrades rest peacefully under the grass,
In the blue and windy sky of Quang Tri
Even though it is noisy, do not stir the leaves.

Step slowly and speak quietly
Why do my comrades lie tightly while the old citadel is so huge?
Every inch of soil contains real life
Making me choked with emotion as I stand here”
(Written by Phạm Đình Lân) (Temporary Translation)
“Please row gently, wooden boats to Thach Han!
Lying under the river bed are my sweet friends,
Whose twenties turned into waves
Dancing to the river shore for thousands of years.”
(Written by Lê Bá Dương) (Temporary Translation)

The delegation also visited Mother Suot Statue in the park on the bank of the Nhat Le River, just 50 meters away from the old wharf where she labored. Mother Nguyễn Thị Suốt is a heroic symbol of Đồng Hới, Quảng Bình.  In her sixties, this mother risked her life by relentlessly ferrying Vietnamese soldiers and artillery in a small wooden boat to the other side of Nhat Le river bank from 1964 to 1966. She made around 1,400 trips across the river every year. She was killed in 1968.

“With a little talent of carrying people in the boat at the age of 60
The planes rained down bombs continuously
But I just keep helping people cross the river.”
(Written by Tố Hữu)-( Temporary Translation)

The FOSCO delegation was deeply touched and proud of the historical and revolutionary tradition of the country, and resolved to continue to give their best at work as a contribution to the Company’s and the City’s economic development.
