FOSCO Leaders attended the 50th anniversary of ASEAN

On the evening of August 8^th 2017, on behalf of FOSCO Leaders, Deputy General Director Trần Tuấn Anh congratulated and gave flowers to “The celebration of the 50^th anniversary of the Association of South-East Asian Nations - ASEAN (August 8^th 1967- August 8^th 2017), the 22nd anniversary of the date Việt Nam joined ASEAN (July 28^th 1995) and ASEAN Day (August 8^th)” organized by HCMC People’s Committee at the City Theatre.
Attending were Leaders of HCMC Party’s Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, Committee of the Vietnamese Fatherland Front of HCMC, ASEAN Consuls-General, Honorary Consuls and HCM Citizens of all classes.
Giving the opening remarks at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyễn Thành Phong, Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee emphasized, the past 50 years have witnessed many long steps of growth that ASEAN made. ASEAN has really grown stronger and bigger, not only in size but also in the role of increasing cooperation and bonding among the members in the region and in the world; enhancing solidarity, understanding and trust in each other between the countries in ASEAN.
ASEAN is indeed one of the top ones that took initiative in boosting dialogues, cooperation for keeping peace, security in the region and in the world, through creating and holding the key role in many regional forums like ASEAN+1, ASEAN+3, ASEAN Regional Forum...
On behalf of the City Leaders, Mr. Nguyễn Thành Phong said, being the special city, the economic and cultural hub of the country, HCMC has always taken initiative in implementing and carried out effectively various bilateral cooperation activities with the other members of ASEAN in many fields, especially in economics, trading, investment, and culture.

To date, HCMC has formed cooperative relationships with 6 localities of some ASEAN countries, showing the growing bonds between the City and the other ASEAN localities. This is the important foundation so that the City and its friend-localities can implement specific cooperative activities, contributing to the economic-social growth of both sides.
Besides, HCMC actively implemented many trade and investment promotion activities, bringing the practical meaning in the relationships between different sides. Up to July 31^st 2017, ASEAN countries had 1,465 projects in HCMC with the total investment capital reaching USD 15.45 billion, mostly in the field of manufacture, training and education.
The City Leader believed that, in the coming years, the good friendship and cooperative relationship in many aspects between HCMC and many localities in ASEAN as well as its partner-countries will be more developed both in depth and in breadth, contributing to building a united, consolidated, peaceful and prosperous ASEAN Community.
The friendly and cooperative relationships between Việt Nam, with HCMC in it, and the other countries in ASEAN as well as its partner-countries will be more bonding, effective and developing towards bringing prosperity and happiness to the citizens living in the region as well as in the world.
On behalf of the ASEAN Consuls-General and Honorary Consuls in HCMC, Mr. Jean Anes, Consul General of Indonesia to HCMC highly appreciated the idea and good will of HCMC People’s Committee in organizing the Celebration of the 50th anniversary of ASEAN, which shows the common awareness of the ASEAN members of the importance to sustain and develop ASEAN values, including solidarity, unification and cooperation as facing the rapid and non-stop changes of globalization.
Mr. Jean Anes stressed that, ASEAN has just reached the important milestone in its action plan to actualize, turn the common interests into specific principles of the ASEAN Community, “One Vision, One Identity and One Community”, the 3 strongly inter-dependent pillars. Therefore, with the Celebration of the 50th anniversary of ASEAN being organized, it is confirmed that there is the unification, solidarity and cooperation; enhancing the harmony, understanding each other and reflecting the importance of the commitment to put the human factor into the center of ASEAN Community.
At the ceremony, many artists of HCMC came to take part in the brilliant performances under the themes “Việt Nam develops and integrates”, “ASEAN colors” and “For a peaceful and prosperous ASEAN”.
Also on this occasion, from 6.45pm to 10pm of August 8th, at the Reunification Hall, HCMC People’s Committee headquarter, the City Theatre, the City Post office and Ho Chi Minh museum in HCMC - there were many 3D photo art shows to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of ASEAN.
